Utah Grinding Project

Geofortis Utah Grinding Project

Geofortis acquired Parks5 Design (P5D) to be their technical owners representative and CAPEX project manager for the development, design, procurement and installation of a pozzolan grinding plant in northern Utah. A CAPEX budget was generated. P5D assisted Geofortis with the financing and permitting required to build this plant in the Utah area. The raw material is trucked over the road from the mine and is off-loaded into a large storage building. The raw material is then reclaimed from the storage building, dried, ground in a rotary ball mill, classified and pneumatically transported to storage silos. The finished product is loaded into the clients trucks and transported off site. A major OEM (Cemengal) was awarded the grinding system and an external engineering firm (KBR) was awarded the balance of plant design. The balance of plant equipment supply was established between Geofortis and P5D with the assistance of KBR. Only experienced and professional suppliers were selected. The installation portion of the project proceeded with splitting the construction into two contracts. The civil portion awarded to one contractor (Granite) and the mechanical & electrical awarded to a separate contractor (Lee Mechanical). The plant is in operation and servicing the northern Utah market with a "green" natural pozzolan. This grinding plant will provide a concrete additive replacement to flyash for the foreseeable future.
